Introduction

"If you eat well, you’ll be healthy.  If you are healthy, you can work.  If you can work, you’ll earn money.  And if you have money you can buy anything" ~ Gunter Motz ~ (my dad)

When I was a youngster in Choluteca, Honduras, I always observed with fascination whatever my grandmother or the maid were cooking.

My fraternal grandmother was an artist.  She cooked the most amazing meals, crochet, knitted, sewed, baked, canned, made sausages, etc.   She taught my Mom and subsequently, my Mom  also became an artist.
Could this also be a gift I inherited?  the cooking that is!

For me, cooking is my therapy.  After a long hectic day at the office, I go home, change in to comfortable clothes and shoes and step in to the kitchen to create what my husband calls “thumbs-up” meals.  But of course, John is just lucky, because eating is also one of my passions.

When John and I got married, his mother told me that if John gained weight, it would be my fault.  Thank goodness that hasn’t happened.

As newlyweds, we lived in Slidell, Louisiana, we had five of the six kids living with us.  I worked but as soon as I got home dinner would be in the works.
When I walked in the door, they always bombarded with the same question :  "what’s for dinner?".  One day I walked  in and said:  "Hey mom, how are you, how was your day?" they all looked at me like I was from Mars!

One of the house’s rule was no dirty dishes in the sink. One day, I came home and found dirty dishes in the sink.  I walked out of the house and drove off without a word.

Later when John arrived home, they all complained that they were hungry and that I wasn’t home and would he cook dinner.  John’s first question was:  "what did you guys do?"  They all looked at each other and started blaming each other for the dirty dishes in the sink.

I didn’t cook dinner that evening, and I don’t remember what they ate, most likely they ate cereal.  Nelson wrote on the calendar “starvation day”.  A few days later, I don’t know what was going on, but I overheard William say:  "whatever you do, don’t make her mad, I want my dinner”.

I never found dirty dishes in the sink ever again.   I declared this a food victory!

I am true believer, everything revolves around food.  No matter the circumstances food  is what always brings people together.  When people attend an event, the aftermath conversation is about how much they enjoyed the food.  Food is one of the best topic of conversation; it warms the soul.  It could be about a simple guacamole, chips and salsa or even popcorn with jalapenos. Yes, try popcorn with jalapenos; amazing!
.
Always remember, even if it is water you are boiling, if you do it with love, it will taste heavenly!

Here are my favorite recipes.  Enjoy!
